Amira's Story

Meet Amira, a Dar al-Kalima University sports management student. I met Amira during one of my most recent trips to DAK. She was in her first year at DAK, and I was immediately struck by her enthusiasm and drive. She seemed energized by the encouragement she received from her professors and peers to use her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit as she pursued her dreams.

Amira has always been a driven, creative woman. After years of excelling in various sports programs, Amira decided it was time to take the next step: earning a degree in Sports Management. Dar al-Kalima University was the obvious choice, it is the only university in the Bethlehem region that could provide her with a sports management certificate and nurture her artistic talents at the same time.

DAK is allowing Amira to explore creative outlets through decorating food and creating clay figurines while also achieving her unique career goals. Amira shared with me her dreams of becoming a coach and eventually owning and managing her own gym. Amira is thriving at DAK. In her first semester, she earned a 4.0 GPA!

Despite excelling at DAK, Amira’s dream hasn’t always been easy to follow. She recently lost her father, leaving only her brother, who is an artist, to support her and her family. You can see one of his pieces, an exquisite silver tree sculpture, in this photo of Amira and me. He gifted it to a Bright Stars of Bethlehem church partner, to thank them. They heard Amira’s story and gave her a full-ride scholarship so she could continue her studies without worry.

Amira's dedication and passion are truly inspiring, and I have no doubt she will achieve great things in the future. She embodies the spirit of the next generation of creative leaders in Palestine. Join us in being the HOPE for students like Amira by clicking the button below to donate.
