ABOUT LUCY JANJIGIAN
Lucy Janjigian, a Jerusalem-born artist of Armenian descent, is a noted painter, muralist, and sculptor. She moved to the United States in 1952 and obtained her BA in Biology from Heidelberg University, Tiffin, OH, and her MS in Plant Ecology from Emory University, Atlanta, GA.
Lucy attributes her development as an artist, to her years of study at the Art Students League and the Stacy Studio workshop in New York City. Her works are featured in numerous public, private, and corporate collections, and she has been commissioned for various projects including paintings, murals, magazine covers, book jackets, illustrations, Christmas cards, and stamps.
Thematically, Lucy's abstract works are inspired by nature and her travels. Critics have compared her paintings to the works of prominent artists such as Kathe Kolowitz, Max Beckman, and Jose Clemente Orozco, noting the strength of her expressionistic and cubistic technique.
Lucy has a passion for justice, informed by her years of Bible study and personal beliefs, which inspire and inform her art. She has released three professional DVDs of her paintings accompanied by musical selections and personal narration. Notably, her "Journey to Resurrection" series has been archived by the Episcopal Church Visual Arts.
In addition to her other series of paintings, Lucy's "Uprooted" series is particularly personal and moving, focusing on the Armenian genocide, a tragic event often overlooked by many Americans.
